I often hear people explain the fear of the Lord as a mere respect or reverence. But the Bible uses the word fear at least 300 times in reference to God, so we make a mistake when we downplay it.
The Bible tells us that people in the past feared God and people in the future will fear God. The Bible has also shown that men, such as Moses, Abraham, and Noah, feared God. Yet you say that you will not fear God? 8-WHERE IN THE BIBLE DID PEOPLE FEAR GOD?

So let's talk about this concept of the fear of the Lord. Fear is an unhealthy thing when we're talking about relationships. It is a good thing to fear or respect a camp fire or a bottle of propane, but it is not helpful in the context of relationships, especially where emotional intimacy is involved.
The Bible says that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” (Proverbs 1:7) A natural fear of the Lord will make you not want to sin. When you think of how amazing and powerful God is you learn to fear Him in a healthy way. All you have to do is hold God in reverence. It isn’t a gift, but a choice. You have to choose to fear God.
